Quick little touch to Safari room :)

This is just a small one but I thought I'd add it anyway...

Of course for my Safari baby room I want as many animal print touches as possible!

I used our light switch cover and painted it Giraffe print:)

All I did was just take the light switch cover off, wash it off good. Took some regular brown paint I had and just did a Giraffe print as best I could. I had to do a couple coats cause the paint doesn't like to stick to good to the light switch plate. Oh and I made sure to paint my screws that hold the plate to the wall. Easy and quick little touch to the room:)

My rocking chair, or should I say bed for the next few months;)

Ok this may just possibly be the last project for Baby Pfaff's room, but who knows I still might come up with more;)

My hubby's parents gave us a rocking chair that was actually given to his mommy by her parents when she was pregnant with her first child:)

Now of course I don't find anything wrong with this chair, it is in excellent shape and to be honest even though the pattern is old fashion I actually do love it because it reminds me of an old rocking chair my Grandparents had that I loved when I was little, but it unfortunately does not match his room at all. Well unless you consider the green shag carpet;) but that's mostly covered.

So I took it upon myself to make a cover for it, of course I want to be able to remove the cover for cleaning...

 I found this Zebra pattern material at Walmart, it's almost 2 yards worth for just over $2!

Then I bought a Sheet from Walmart, twin size flat one that's black for $5

which I ended up only using a little under half of it so I still have left over for more projects:)

I laid out my sheet then placed the cushion on top of it...

Then placed the Zebra pattern upside down on top of it then cut so there was about 2 inches of extras around it...

Here's the materials all cut and ready to be pinned...

 I forgot to take pics of this part so this is the end result, I used some of the extra material, about 2ish inches and sewed it together(inside out) then rolled the material inside out so the seam is on the inside, this will be used to loop around the chair to hold the cushion to the frame. For this chair I made two of them.

I took the two stripes I made above and carefully pinned them into the corners they go. When I pinned them I made sure NOT to pin the cushion, later I pull the cushion out so I didn't want problems down the road:)

Ok here's where I pin the material, making sure to try and go with the flow of the cushion, these cushions are kinda wavy. I made sure to only pin the Zebra material to the black sheet, not pinning to the cushion because I pull the cushion out.

Then I traced with my marker along the cushion line just to make sure I had the waves right... Course even my marker job wasn't great but it gave me a good idea of the pattern...

Again I skipped a step of pics, I carefully pulled the cushion out of the materials, carefully! Then I sewed along the black line, roughly:)

Then after I've sewn around three edges, made sure to leave the bottom open, I cut the remaining material off.

Then turn it inside out and tuck the bottom in!

And here's the chair all done:)

Now I happen to have a foot stool I can use with this, if I feel like it I will make a Zebra cover for it:)



Update:
Made the cover for my foot stool:) All I did was cut the material to fit then stapled it underneath. I was going to do elastic in the corners and just wrap it around but I didn't feel like it:) So I just stapled!

Make cheap cloth diapers!

Super cute and SUPER easy!!!!!!

I have decided I want to cloth diaper my baby I'm cookin. When I decided this I of course started looking online for cloth diapers. Holy crap their expensive!!! So I decided I'm gunna make em!!! I found a few tutorials on how to make them and used ideas from them and a few ideas I threw in myself.

I am not a seamstress what so ever!!! So the thing that I mainly did was just look at pictures on the tutorials I found because I couldn't understand all their descriptions and sewing terms. So this tutorial is mostly pictures:)

First I used a diaper and laid it out on cardboard and traced it as best I could. I realized it was a little smaller than I wanted it to be so when I trace it I trace about half inch to an inch around it to allow for the sewing and mess ups;)

My father-in-law recently lost a bunch of weight so he gave me his old work T-shirts to use. I've got so many I can make a crap load of diapers, hahahaha get it crap load;) awww man I crack myself up:D

Here's the stuff you need:

T-shirt is what I suggest, you could use sheets but you'd have to use many more layers. So I suggest T-shirts.

Velcro, I use the half inch wide stuff

Elastic, I think it's 1/4 inch I use? Maybe a little smaller? The size of it doesn't really matter that much, just don't use 3 inch wide stuff cause that's a little over board.

Scissors

Marker

Wash cloth, or towel

Some sort of soft material, this will be the outside, I just go to Walmart or JoAnns and buy the left over scraps for under a couple bucks. I've used rougher material but the soft stuff is nicer.

Sewing machine

I also suggest having a seem ripper (I use mine way to often)

Pins

Ok below I've already traced the card board. I lay down two layers of the T-shirt and one layer of the soft material, then trace it then cut it out as best I can, don't worry about making it perfect, just do the best you can.

Lay them so the soft material's face side is facing the t-shirt material.

Take your towel or wash cloth, fold it into thirds, then take some scrap t-shirt material to wrap around the towel material.

Sew the material around the towel, then trim the excess off. (This one isn't the best one I've done, usually they look really nice but of course I just had to do a crappy job since I'm sharing (insert rolling eyes)

Take one of the T-shirt's and place the towel on top of it and sew it to the center, You should use pins but I am extremely impatient so I usually end up doing it with out. I do suggest the first couple you make do use the pins just until you get the hang of it. This is like my tenth diaper so I can do it without just fine now.

Now lay your layers together, I have laid the layers differently each time it really doesn't matter the order as long as your soft material's face will face out, so just make sure to have it facing the t-shirt material at this point.

Now sew three of the edges together. Leave one of the ends un-sewn, you will be turning it inside out. This is where I usually end up using my seam ripper, I usually get carried away and sew all four sides;)

Now take your elastic, doesn't matter what side you sew it on, sorry if it's confusing in my pics I just noticed I kept flipping the material. Just to clear it up the diaper is still inside out at this point.

Sew the elastic into the curves(legs holes) Use your own judgement on how tight to sew the elastic, I sew a couple stitches then start pulling it tight, I noticed I prefer it almost a little looser than you'd think because when I pull it to tight then it seems like the leg part would be too tight on the lil baby's leg.

Just try it a few different ways and see what you like best:)

Here I've got both legs done, looks like I might have done one side tighter than the other, oh well cause you can't notice a difference when it's done.

Now sew your elastic on the backside, Make sure it's the side that's already sewn shut.

Again as tight as you feel it should be.

I added this next pic in to show you to make sure to tie off your ends and remember your turning it inside out so its ok to tie them together. I don't do the whole tying the string to itself thing that talented seamstresses do. Some of the strings I end up not tying cause I don't have a string to tie them to. I figure if later down the road it loosens I can just do a quick fix.

Now your going to turn it inside out! Separate it so you put your hand in between the soft material and T-shirt material then grasp the sewn end and just pull.

You'll have to pull your lil tabs out too.

Here's how it should look, lil funny right now but starting to look like a diapie, don't let that piece of elastic it's laying on confuse you. I just accidentally laid the diaper on top of it.

Now take the areas that have the elastic and pull them tight and sew along it on the outside.

Here's what it should look like, or similar at least:) Don't stress over perfection! Remember our mother's and grandmothers used to just wrap cloth around our bums and pin it so compared to that these are genius!!! Just ask your grandma, she'll be impressed;)

Now take the end that's still open and fold the material inside itself. Again I suggest you pin it till you've done a few.

Now sew along it, make sure to sew through all the layers, I have one diaper I didn't do a great job with and a little chunk is stickin out. It won't mess up anything just kinda an eyesore but whatever, soon it'll be covered in poo and I think that's a little more of an eyesore;)

Here's close to what it should look like now. Almost done!!!!

Now take your velcro and sew chunks as big as you want to the front (side without the elastic) Use as much or as little velcro as you want. Some of mine have more than this some have less. Or if you want you can use those snap things, I prefere velcro cause I can choose a little better on how I want it resized and I figure when the velcro gets bad I can easily replace it. Plus with the snaps you have to buy the tool to apply the snaps and I'm just to cheap to do that;)

Now sew your other velcro to the tabs on the backside. Make sure to figure out how you want them to sit, how high or low, how close in, how big of tabs. I try to judge where the babies body will be to try and make it so the velcro won't be touching to much of the body. I try to use the fuzzy Velcro on these tabs since they will most likely touch his body. But I've also done it the opposite way too, cause you'll notice you will end up using more of one side of the Velcro than the other, so to avoid waste I usually rotate the sides of Velcro(I hope that made sense)

I hope this was easy to understand, again I am NOT a seamstress so I don't know terms or "proper" ways to sew, I just put the material down and push the pedal and sew. If you have ANY questions please feel free to ask:)

These are super cheap and I figure each one has cost under $3.00 The cost might vary depending on what material you purchase and if you have extra t-shirts and wash clothes but comparing these to the nice 10 to 15 dollar diapers you can buy, I'd prefer these. They might not work as excellent as the expensive ones but I have purchased the expensive ones and when I hold them next to each other there really isn't much of a difference. Oh and I've noticed these are way easier to dry because I don't use that water proof material(you really don't need to) These will hold the ingredients just fine. Also their way cheaper so you can afford to make tons of these and use them while at home if your worried about how well they'll work and then buy the expensive ones to use when you go out and about. I have bought about 5 pairs of the expensive ones and have made around ten of these and plan on making more once baby's born, I decided the ones I have will work great for now and then as he grows I will make ones that will fit him at the time and go bigger. I don't want to get carried away and make a bunch and they all be to small.

It roughly takes me half hour to an hour to make one but I take several breaks and my sewing machine is old so I let it rest a lot. When I made my first couple it took me close to an hour of straight work time but I was trying really hard for perfection, then I realized the things I was stressing on making perfect really don't matter in the end. I just try to make the outside as good as possible cause that's the part you'll see and gets the most wear and tear.

Top 10 things NOT to say to a pregnant women

I would like to do a post about my top ten things that people say that piss me off during pregnancy:)

1) Hoping for the gender of your choice.

Why does this one seem to make people uncomfortable. Before we knew what we were having we would always have people ask what we're hoping for. I was honest with them and told them I want a boy they'd get super uncomfortable and say well I'm sure all you want is for it to be healthy. I would No SHIT! but I still want a boy. Why ask if your gunna be dumb about it?!

2) Do not and I mean DO NOT ever comment about a pregnant women's clothes! Unless its positive of course.

The other day we went to a football game and I wore my jersey that I had gotten last year, I'm not going to name names but a certain someone said "So I see you had to buy a new jersey." I said "No this is mine from last year." He said, totally shocked, "Oh really?!?! I just figured you had to buy a new one"

Seriously?! WTF! I wanted to say "No apparently either I'm just as fat as I was last year or I'm not as fat as you thought I was." But I was a good girl and bit my tongue and walked off.

3) When a pregnant women tells you they are still having morning sickness, just believe them, trust me they do NOT want to talk about it or explain all the foods that make them sick. Saying the foods that make you sick will make you sick! So don't try to list off things for them to eat and do not make food that they already told you that they can't eat!

4) When the parents share with you names they are considering for their baby do not make rude comments, I don't care how dumb or odd you think the name is, its not your baby so shut your mouth! And especially do not trick them into telling you and then run around behind your back and talk crap about the name and tell everyone the name.

Number 4 reminded me of another one. So we'll call this on 4 1/2) We of course have our name picked out and have only told our parents. We told them they are the only ones that know and do not tell anyone! Again not going to name names but one of them went and told some of their friends. Really? You can't hold in the secret of your grandchild's name? Well guess that teaches us not to tell you any other secrets.

5) Don't tell me horror stories about your pregnancy or a friend of a friends cousin who had a terrible pregnancy or delivery or miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy or ANY of that! I don't need more fears flooding my thoughts, I come up with enough on my own.

6) When I feel like venting about my pregnancy problems it does not reassure me when you say "it will all be worth it once you have that baby though." Duh! But right now I feel like crap so just shut up and let me bitch!

7) Also do not tell me how hard it is once you have a baby especially don't say "you don't even know" Just shut up I'm not an idiot I do know and understand, I have been around babies I have seen how hard it can be and I've seen how wonderful it can be. So just shut up!

8) Oh and lady at the eye doctors office, don't go off on a lecture tellin me to do yoga and eat this and not that and don't take any medications even though your doctor says its ok and don't get an epidural and blah blah blah, I just want my damn eyes checked so do your job and shut the hell up. People should not give their two cents about how you should go about your pregnancy, its you who is going through it and only you can decide what to do and what not to do. I don't think there's any right or wrong way, there's only your way.

9) When you ask me how I'm feeling and I say like shit don't just sit there staring at me head cocked and eyes all sad waiting for me to say more. I do not want to get into ALL my problems so move on and change the subject. Pregnant women get asked fifty billion times a day how their doing. I know some people like to bitch bout all their problems but in reality I don't, I'd rather not talk about myself, this might seem funny since this whole post is me bitching and talking bout myself but I'm silly that way;)

10) Do not tell me stories about how you knew this one lady who was pregnant once and she bitched all the time and was crabby. This just makes me hate you a little more and feel bad for her. A pregnant women has EVERY right in the world to bitch and you need to be nice and listen!

Please share this with all the ignorant people out there. I'm sure I have made these mistakes and I believe everyone gets a pass or two but people really need to be more careful, cause next time you say something you might not get a pregnant women who can bite her tongue so well;)

Bathroom cabinet redo!

Our house is really nicely laid out and designed really well but there's a lot of things that are outdated. The bathroom cabinet in my bathroom was white with gold detailing. The whole bathroom needs updating but I thought I'd atleast start with this.

I scrubbed the cabinet down really well with TSP.

Love this stuff! Really gets the grime off without having to scrub hard.



Then I just went to work paintin away on them, took 2 coats to cover and then I did a final coat just to smooth it over really good. I made sure with each coat to keep the brush strokes going the same direction. I was worried the paint would scratch off easily but it has held up very very well! It's just interior wall paint I had left over.

Now I just need to paint the pink walls! Also need to do somethin with the floor!

Family Tree

This post is why I was going to wait to post my other post about trees...

but I couldn't wait so I figured I'd just do two different posts even though their kinda the same.

In our living room we have 3 Dill Green walls and one Chocolate Brown wall on the opposite side of the room as this wall. I decided to use the Chocolate Brown color to make my tree so it would match:)

 It didn't turn out how I had it pictured in my head:/ Every time I tried to make it look like I had pictured in my head I kept messing up so I finally gave in and just let my brush do the work cause it obliviously had a mind of its own today.

After the 2nd coat.

 My plan, once I get more frames, is to hang pics from Randy's side of the family under his pic and pics from my side of the family under mine(including our friends of course) and then in the center area hang pics of Baby Pfaff:)

A few pics hung, still have to get some frames so I can hang more pics.

I don't like how the pics turned out, I don't think it looks as good as it does in person, in person it fills the wall really nicely but to me in the pics it looks small. Ugh oh well!
